My Journey with Intentional Living

Intentional living wasn’t something I set out to find. In fact, when I first began this journey, I didn’t even know what it was. I was simply trying to piece my life back together, one small step at a time.

There was a time when I felt completely lost and out of alignment. My IT career before having children never felt fulfilling, and after a difficult first pregnancy and postnatal depression, I struggled with anxiety, low mood, and a sense of not knowing who I was anymore. Even as I recovered, lingering feelings of self-doubt and a disregulated nervous system stayed with me.

Returning to work in 2018 brought more questions than answers. I tried a variety of part-time jobs, but nothing felt right. My confidence plummeted, and I often felt like life was slipping away while I stood still. I wanted change, but no matter how many goals I set, they seemed to fade into the background of my overwhelming daily life.

The Turning Point

Change didn’t happen overnight. It began with small shifts—giving up alcohol, experimenting with different forms of movement like Qi Gong and yoga, and learning to observe and understand my thoughts through journaling and meditation. Slowly, I started to notice what activities lifted me up and what drained me. I became more attuned to my needs as an introvert, learning to honor my need for quiet and solitude instead of resisting it.

Over time, I stopped comparing myself to others and gave myself permission to go at my own pace. I discovered how to align my energy with my menstrual cycle and embraced the power of balance—a mix of movement, mindfulness, and rest. Bit by bit, I reclaimed my energy, my confidence, and my joy.

Discovering Intentional Living

Somewhere along the way, I stumbled across the concept of intentional living. It was like a lightbulb moment, everything I had been practicing in my own way came together. Intentional living meant slowing down, being present, understanding my values and priorities, and directing my energy toward what truly mattered. It was the missing piece of the puzzle.

Today, I live a life that feels aligned and meaningful. I’m teetotal, have improved my relationship with food, and look forward to daily movement that feels joyful instead of punitive. Most importantly, I’m a calmer, more present wife and mother, and I now have the confidence to share my journey with others.
